19/11/2001-----You can now doweled a snippet of  'Tried Not To' by Visiting our website and going to 'SoundiS'. Save it to file - don't believe the download time given by your computer (it lies).   If you rely are concerned do it at work or on someone else's computer - they wont mind.

iCARUS Smith Say: Lead by example

14/01/2002-----Bright Young Things 2002     Is this how iCARUS Smith should be described?   According to Leeds City council it is as we have won (along with 14 other unsigned bands) 'Bright Young Things 2002'.   This means that we will be going into the recording studio on the 20-01-02 to rehearse and record 3 tracks  and then again on 22-01-02 to record a track to go on the front of the Leeds Guide.   They also send the CD to music 'insiders' but this is to be seen.   Interviews, photo shoots (to appear in the mag) and gigs to follow.   You will be informed.

iCARUS Smith Say: Be nice to people on the way up 'cos you'll meet them coming down

06/02/02-----Its been a bit of a while since the last iCARUS Smith e-mail this is because we’ve been very busy with Bright Young Things. This is what we’ve done:20-01-02 @ House of Mook Producer : Phil Mook . 8 Hours of Hell. After 2 hours of warm up; Ed thought he’d knackered his voice, we went for a take. 3 songs (Tried Not To, Apathy and You Ruined Everything). They sounded terrible so after a short break we tried again. Less than satisfied a bit more guitar was added and then vocals. Phil twiddled with his knobs and something strange must have happened because Apathy and You Ruined Everything sounded good. 22-01-02 @ Touchwood Studios Producer: Bruce. 10 Hours without a break. After playing, recording and listening to 3 tracks for 8 hours two days before we submitted ourselves to play, record and listen to 1 track for 10 hours. Tried Not To was the track and after a couple of hours setting up drums we played for a couple of hours with many mistakes made. Tim & Ben added extra guitar and Ed sang in the isolation booth while James, Ben, Tim and Bruce stared at him & laughed. Finally the track was mixed and many of the mistakes were left in as they sounded good. 31-01-02 @ Leeds Town Hall – interview & Photo-shoot. We messed around and don’t know how it went (but were given some free t-shirts).The Result: April edition of Leeds Guide will have a CD on the cover with Tried Not To lovingly burned onto it and inside there will be pictures of our smiling faces and words we’ve said with our mouths. Also forthcoming a gig to promote the Leeds Guide AND An EP in the shops soon featuring:Tried Not To Apathy Norsea You Ruined Everything.

iCARUS Smith Say: The devil makes work for idle bands

26/02/02-----Update to website: an archive of the iS e-mails, band page up and running but with pictures to come, more links including one to bright young thing website (not sure if it's up and running). The gig for BYT featuring us is on the 19 march in the leeds town hall crypt and costs as little as two pounds. Contact us if you want a ticket. The Leeds Guide with the CD on should be in all good newsagents (in Leeds) from the middle of march come and buy a copy or give the money to us directly (we might not send anything back but we enjoy money so give generously). The EP we've produced is mastered and the art work is being fiddled with by James and then it's time to run off a few copies. More details to follow.

iCARUS Smith Say: Remain Happy

21/03/02----The BYT gig on Tuesday was storming we went on first in front of about 200 people and played our socks off and got the crowd jumpin' (or at least clapping and whooping). We were suitably loud. If you weren't there you missed it.   The 'You Ruined Everything' EP now available containing the tracks:     Tried Not To     Norsea     Apathy     You Ruined Everything 3Pounds at gigs or from us (plus postage) or soon to be in Leeds shops.

iCARUS Smith Say: You only get one spin

The You Ruined Everything EP is in the shops now (Jumbo, Crash and Borders - all in Leeds) it is good, buy it.

We also have another gig: 25-04-02 at Joseph's well. We are playing with xenith and the moon three pounds on the door. We'll be on at 8:30 so arrive early to avoid disappointment. New songs to make you happy and feed your soul.

More to come...

iCARUS Smith Say: Don't Fear Change

10-04-02---The next two iCARUS Smith gigs are on new ground (both in Leeds but we've never played them).   25-04-02  ***  josephs well   ***   3pounds  ***   doors 8pm ***  supporting Xenith and The Moon   ***  we on 8:20   ***   free beer - oh no this is a lie   ***   24-05-02  ***  Brudanell Social Club  ***   doors 8pm  *** with The invention of hands and human fly  *** we're 2nd  *** excellent venue excellent bands   *** seats for those who arrive early ***

iCARUS Smith Say:If you stare at your shoes you miss the stars

The gig at Joseph's well was edgy mainly because tim broke a string and we did't have a backup but Xenith lent us one so we finished the set in style with a flying V.   Just time to remind you that the nest gig is at the Brudanell social club here in leeds (24-05-02) and there are 3 other bands, cheep beer and seats for the early. Get a bit drunk but not roudy - this will not be tolerated.

iCARUS Smith Say: We're smiling on the inside

It's been a while, how have you been? The Brudanell gig went without a hitch and we played our little socks off to a large crowd who took advantage of the cheap drinks.   If you missed it then you have another chance to see the brilliance that is iCARUS Smith:   Joseph's Well 15-06-02      doors 8pm cost 3 pounds (I think) with Afternoon and Hatchiman   It is a Saturday so come along and scream for us knowing that you're keeping it real and keeping us on the cusp of madness.   Look at the web page and increase our 'hits' and email if you want to know anything (at all).
